Why do I need to use a heat protector after washing my hair?

First things first… what even is a heat protector?! A heat protector is a product used to safeguard hair from damage caused by heat styling tools such as flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers.

Using a heat protector after washing your hair and before styling is so important as it helps to reduce the damage caused by heat styling tools. Heat protectors create a barrier that shields your hair from high temperatures and prevents breakage, split ends and long-lasting hair damage by preserving the hair’s natural moisture and improving it’s overall health and appearance.

For those with coloured hair a heat protector is absolutely essential, as it protects your colour from fading or turning brassier in tone. For those with blonde hair, without a heat protector applied to your hair, the blonde will become much yellow – ruining your colour and meaning you have to return to the salon much sooner. For blondes, we recommend doubling up your heat protector with a purple shampoo or conditioner from the Pureology Strength Cure Blonde range to ensure your colour remains bright and beautiful, rather than dull or brassy.

Here at Lady K Hair Artistry, the Pureology Colour Fanatic Multi-Tasking Leave-In Spray is ourgo-to heat protector – it can be found in all our stylists trollies! It also doubles up as a great detangling spray to get rid of any of those tricky post-hair-wash knots and is a nourishing leave-in treatment that will leave your hair feeling silky and shiny, as well as healthy and strengthened.

But if don’t want to splash out on a seperate heat protector, then any of the Virtue Lab range of products from shampoos, conditioners, treatments and stylers (all of which are stocked at Lady K!) will give you the benefits of heat protection due to the magic ingredient of keratin.
