Unlike your natural hair, hair extensions don’t have a direct supply of nutrients, vitamins or minerals so they do require more maintenance and aftercare than your own hair.

Tip 1: Regular brushing
Regular brushing is essential in keeping your hair extensions in optimum condition. When brushing – remember being gentle is key! Start from the bottom and work your way to the top whilst holding your hair extensions at the top to ensure you are not pulling too hard.
Tip 2: Sulphate free hair care
When choosing hair care products, whether it be shampoo, conditioner or styling products always ensure they are sulfate-free as sulphates break down the bonds securing the hair extensions in place. At Lady K all our rituals products are sulfate free and safe to use on hair extensions.
Tip 3: Rinse and Dry correctly
When washing extensions, avoid any product build up thoroughly rinsing your extensions after washing. Otherwise the product can build up and make the extensions sticky and more prone to knotting. Secondly, never leave your extensions to try naturally – always blowdry.
Tip 4: Heat Protection and Hair masks
Heat from excessive styling and the sun can cause hair to become dry and damaged and may also cause a change in the tone of your hair. Always use a heat protection spray when drying and styling your hair to avoid any damage. Using a Hair mask regularly can also help the longevity of your extensions. Tip 5: Avoid sunscreen and Fake tan
It is best to avoid letting your hair extensions rub on and be exposed to sunscreen and fake tan as this can change the colour of your hair extensions and cause them to turn brassy, peach or even pink toned. This one’s for the girls with blonde or lighter hair extensions especially.

Although it might be tempting to try and fix extensions that maye have become misaligned, tangled or loose – all extensions should only be fitted or removed by a trained professional. Attempting to remove these yourself can result in loss of your natural hair and damage to your extensions.
